All enteral feeding sets are changing from October 2015 around the world to ensure a safer feeding system. This project is referred to as “ENFit”. All Giving sets will change to the “ENFit” system over the coming 12 months.
October 2015: Initially you will receive a new transition set which will be temporary. This will have adaptors attached to the Giving set on the feeding and medication ports to allow you use your current syringes and feeding tube.
September 2015 - September 2016: During this time on a phased basis the new ENFit syringe and feeding tube with ENFit adaptors will become available.
September 2016: The final ENFit sets will be in the market. All transition/temporary adaptors will be removed from the market. ENFit will be the new standard
We would recommend that you watch the videos below to see how your individual Giving set will change. Please also review our other resources. Please speak with your health care professional for more information on ENFit.
Compatibility between enteral and other delivery systems, such as intravenous (IV) or luer-based delivery systems, can pose a real risk to patient safety and can even be life-threatening.
Therefore Nutricia has participated (in collaboration with other leading global manufacturers of enteral feeding devices) in the development of a new ISO standard for small bore connectors (80369-3), called ENFit™.
This new enteral tubing connection system prevents misconnections and ensures that only enteral nutrition can be delivered through enteral nutrition delivery systems.
The new connector system called ENFit will replace the reverse Luer connector systems to ensure one global enteral connector. The ENFit connector will look very similar to the existing connector however the bore size is slightly larger.
The ENFit connection system includes changes to enteral giving sets, syringes and feeding tubes.
October 2015 – A temporary transition set. The transition giving set will have the new ENFit female connector and the limited-use ENFit Transition Connector (like an adaptor) to facilitate compatibility between the new ENFit system and the existing port.
September 2015-September 2016 – During this time on a phased basis the new ENFit syringe and feeding tube with ENFit adaptors will become available.
September 2016 – The final ENFit sets will be in the market. All transition/temporary adaptors will be removed from the market. ENFit will be the new standard Giving set.
Your patient will also need new order codes. To know your current giving sets codes please look at the bottom left corner of the packaging.
